Thanksgiving

Every year, my boyfriend and I travel up to the San Francisco Bay area for Thanksgiving with his family.  We are usually rushing to get out of the city (along with millions of others) the Tuesday night or Wednesday before the holiday, but this year we decided to take a more relaxed approach and drove up on Thanksgiving morning which was surprisingly quick.  On Friday, we made the trip down to Pismo for a few quiet days by the beach… just what we needed to recharge and kick into holiday mode on Monday morning.  Take a look at some of my favorite moments from the weekend below.

{Lily watching with curiosity as we were packing on Wednesday night}

{Little cousin love}

{Collecting sand dollars on the beach with the little ones}

{Love these guys}

{The CUTEST beach house in Pismo.  The French doors, the windows, the view.  Can I move in now?!}

{View from the hotel}

{One of my favorite parts of traveling – bringing home new sauces and jams to try}

{Edna Valley in San Luis Obispo}

{Recycled wine bottle glasses}

{Tasting fleet at vineyard #3 – Baileyana}

{Fall colors at Kelsey Winery}

{One of the 100+ Peacocks at Kelsey Winery!  I always seem to forget how beautiful they are until I see them again in person}

{Watching the sun set on our last night}

My Life in Pictures

  • Came across a picture I took last week of this amazing winter wonderland tablescape at Wildflower Linen.  Definitely got me excited for holiday decor!
  • Serious packaging envy!  A case of Sea Smoke was delivered to the office today and I could not believe how gorgeous their shipper and wine inserts were.  Talk about customer experience!  I think we have a little catching up to do ;-)
  • Picked up a few (ok, like 30) paint chips on my way home from the office tonight.  I’m feelin’ Benjamin Moore’s Black Ink now… what do you think?
  • An impulse trip my favorite meat market on earth greeted me with this view.  One of those “pinch me, I really live here” moments.
  • Finally home from the office, shooting out a few more emails (or trying to) with my little one by my side.  She likes to take over the keyboard  =^. .^=

Hope you’re having a great week!

Thursday Thanks – Lily

Just over a year ago, our kitten was born and since we adopted her from the West LA Animal Shelter, we don’t really know much about her early days other than that she was found at about 2 1/2 months old wandering the streets of West Los Angeles alone.  I had been begging and pleading Jake for months to let me get a cat since he travels so often and he was adamant that we’d never have one because of his allergies.  For whatever reason, I was feeling a little down on my way home from class one day last May and decided that a trip to the shelter to visit the animals would cheer me up.  There was a playroom full of tiny kittens that weren’t available until the following week and then a feline room for the larger cats that I almost never stepped into, but something lead me into that room that day and I’m so glad it did.  With her tiny paw reaching out at me, I met Lily for the first time.  I convinced the man working there to let me take her out and hold her and from the moment she nuzzled up against me and started purring, I knew I had to take her home.  The following morning, after Jake met her and there were thankfully no signs of an allergic reaction, we made her ours and she’s been an absolute joy in our lives ever since :-)

I’m a firm believer that animals truly lift our spirits and offer unconditional love to those who need it most.  There are vast studies that show that with weekly doses of “pet therapy” patients in both nursing homes and hospitals show great improvement.  Additionally, having a pet has shown to do wonders for your stress levels and health.  Lily’s little spark-plug personality has been nothing short of fascinatingly entertaining for both of us and she’s been the perfect little addition to our home.  For that, I’m starting my first “Thursday Thanks” post with her.

Favorite Things

In today’s design world with inspiration readily at your fingertips and just a click away, it’s increasingly easy to become overwhelmed with options and potential projects.  Every once-in-a-while, I find myself either waterlogged with design or frustrated with a venture that isn’t progressing fast enough.  I’ve realized over time that whenever this happens, it’s important to take a step back and reflect on the things that I already have as well as the simple pleasures that always manage to put a smile on my face.  Here are a few of my favorites that are currently warming my heart.

{Cheerful Mandevilla that has taken over her trellis}

{Delicious vine ripe(ning) Roma tomatoes on our balcony}

{Twinkling star lights that were just too friendly to take down after the 4th of July}

{My little Lily… So happy to be outside in the sun}

{Clear blue Pacific on an afternoon beach run}

{Color gradation charts for days… gearing up for the next big project!}
