Inspiring Image

July 17, 2014

Screen Shot 2014-07-17 at 11.50.58 AM

I’ve been super into color lately and I’m trying to do a better job of infusing it into my every day life – particularly my work space.  I’m such a neutrals gal to the core, but there’s something about a pop of color on a pillow or photograph that just brings life to a space.  I found this image floating around the web and was able to track down the photographer.  It just makes me want to travel and explore the world!  Anyway, just thought I’d pass it along in case anyone was looking for a Thursday pick-me-up.  What inspires you?  Xo

Blair Bear Turns ONE!

June 30, 2014

Entryway_Sign

Happy, happy Monday!  I hope you had a lovely weekend and are ready for the short 4th of July week we have ahead!  Woohoo!

S0… I’ve been dying to share this party!  It’s as cute as can be and was featured on Style Me Pretty Living – pinch me!   The last time I posted, I ran through the steps to create your own tissue paper fringe backdrop that we used for Blair Bear’s Birthday Bash.  It’s one of my favorite DIY’s to date so if you haven’t checked it out yet, head on over here to see 🙂  Our EVP of Sales at ONEHOPE is a dear friend (you might remember her from here) and just over a year ago, she welcomed the cutest little girl into the world.  Blair seriously has the absolute biggest personality and I could not wait to help her momma out with her first birthday party.  Tiffany found a Panda Bear print that she loved at the Land of Nod, so we used that for inspiration for the color palate (mint, coral, pink, gold and white) and went from there.  AND, since it happened to be around the same time we were launching our ONEHOPE Mimosa Bar, we decided to use it that day for the adults and set up an almost identical version (minus the bubbly of course) for the little ones.  We created the tissue paper fringe backdrop for the Mimosa Bar and a fun tissue paper pouf version for the juice bar 🙂  In all, we had so much fun putting this together and not a single detail was overlooked.  Check it out and view all of the vendors at the end!  Xo

PS: The Mimosa Bar + Bubbly for the party provided over 50 meals to children fighting hunger.  Cheers to that!

DIY Fringe Backdrop

June 18, 2014

Mix&Muddle-12

I LOVE a solid DIY with pretty turn-key results and this one is just that!  When our EVP of Sales, Tiffany, asked for my help throwing her adorable little girl’s 1st birthday party, I knew we were going to have some fun 🙂  This was the perfect opportunity for us to debut our Mimosa Bar set (Shhh! Details coming soon!) and I was dying to create a cool backdrop that we could shoot everything up against.  This entire project took about 3 hours from Home Depot run to finish so I’m thrilled with what we were able to create in such a short amount of time.

Fringe-Backdrop-DIY

Supplies

Tissue paper in assorted colors
Panel Board
2- 2×4’s (8ft.)
Drill
Screws + Bolts (I used 2″)
Staple Gun + Staples (light duty)
Measuring tape
Paper chopper

Instructions

Before you begin your backdrop, determine how large it needs to be.  We wanted ours to be 8′ tall and to line up with the entire width of Tiffany’s buffet table (~60″).  Knowing that, I purchased 2 pieces of panel board (as one wouldn’t be big enough to cover the entire surface area between the top of the 8′ 2×4’s and the top of her buffet (~5′-6″).  I had the panel board cut to size at Home Depot and we were ready to go!

1.  Once your supplies are home, lay out the panel board and the 2×4’s and make sure the panel board is square with the legs.

2.  Drill large enough holes through the 2×4’s and into the panel board for your screws to slip into, but don’t attach the legs yet (that will be your last step).

3.  Remove the legs from your workspace to get them out of the way and determine how thick you want each row of fringe to be.  We decided that we wanted each layer of fringe to be about 8″ tall which perfectly worked out to be 1 piece of tissue paper folded long ways (hotdog style).  We didn’t want to be able to see the wood panel board when the fringe blew, so we layered each row first.  Starting at the BOTTOM of your board, fold 1 piece of tissue paper in half (so that you have two layers and staple it in place).  It might take 2-3 pieces of tissue to make it all the way across your panel board.  Don’t worry about the seams – no one will ever see them once you have covered up this layer with fringe 🙂

4.  Create your fringe layer and apply.  To create the fringe, we took 2 sheets of tissue paper, folded them hotdog style (so that we had 4 layers of tissue) and using the paper chopper, we sliced the paper in 1″ sections.  Be sure to stop slicing about 1-2″ from the crease.   This was the most time intensive part of the project.  However, using a paper chopper will make the process so much faster and will make your fringe even and much more professional looking 😉  Apply your fringe with a staple gun (across the top along the crease) and repeat all the way across.

5.  Once you have applied your first row of fringe, repeat steps 3 and 4.  Just a little tip… we thought it looked best if we covered up the top inch or so of the previous layer of fringe with our next color of tissue (see picture for detail).  That way, the transitions aren’t so harsh between colors and you cover up any inconsistencies along the top (below the crease) with the cuts you did to create the fringe.

6.  When you’re ready, carefully stand your panel board up with another person.  Be careful not to step on any fringe… it will tear off SO easily!  It might be easiest to lift your board slightly and slide the legs underneath to attach them.  Either way, just be careful not to tear or crease any of your pretty fringe.

Put your backdrop into place and….voila!!!  I can’t wait to share the images from the full party!  We were covered by Style Me Pretty Living and the feature is the absolute cutest!

PS:  The Mimosa Bar in the pictures can be purchased here, but more on that later too 🙂  xo

I want to be here…

March 6, 2014

wallpaper_hallway3

This week has been nuts.  We’re gearing up for a huge work event on Sunday so I’ve been crafting, glittering everything, painting… all while keeping up with the normal flow of sourcing and basically accumulating everything from paper samples to wine bottle tops and electrical tape on my desk.  My space is COVERED in stuff right now!  Ugh!

This space, however, is the complete opposite and its simplistic palette yet elegant, warm and welcoming aura floored me when I came across it today.  In the home of Sarah Gibson exists a hallway (beautifully wallpapered in Joy Cho’s line for Hygge & West) that leads to a sunny, clean and bright room, which in my mind I have presumed to be a guest room that I just want to dive into.  Couldn’t you just spend the weekend there?  It makes me want to leave my computer at home and head on over with a book and lay in bed until Sunday.  Ohhh to have a guest room like this one day… 🙂  What I absolutely ADORE about this space, however, is that the wallpaper literally makes the hallway come to life.  When you look at hallways from a conventional standpoint, they are just a means of getting you from one room to another, but they don’t have to be that way.  A beautiful light fixture, a perfectly accessorized niche, statement flooring or a simple gallery wall can and will breath life into a hallway, transforming it from a means of getting from one space to another, to a spectacular space of its own that you don’t have to simply rush past when getting from point A to B.  Bravo, Sarah!

I’m off to finish my crafting extravaganza in prep for this weekend!  Be sure to stay tuned on Instagram (@onehopeweddings and @megrobins) for some exciting updates over the course of the next few days!  Wishing you a wonderful remainder to your week 🙂

xoxo

Sparkle and Hearts

I’m so excited about a big project I just wrapped up for work!  Our limited edition All You Need is Love (and Wine) gift set is available exclusively for Valentine’s Day!  The bottle of reserve North Coast Pinot Noir is covered in ruby red glitter and is paired with hands down the best dark chocolate toffee on the planet, B.Toffee.  To keep things romantic, a 3 wick Goji Tarocco Orange scented candle by Voluspa is also included and smells SO good, you guys!  Plus, how pretty is this all put together?!  I absolutely love it!

Being that we’re supporting the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign during the month of February, we’ve committed to donating enough per package to educate 50 women on heart disease prevention.  Heart disease causes 1 in 3 women’s deaths, killing approximately one woman every minute.  CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?!  1 in 31 women dies of breast cancer, while 1 in 3 dies of heart disease.  As a woman with heart disease in my family, I was floored when I heard those statistics and I’m thrilled to be working with such an amazing organization.  Today is the last day for east coasters to order and guarantee delivery by Valentine’s Day so be sure to head on over here to check  it out (and enter GORED at checkout for 30% off).  I’m swooning over the rest of the gorgeous images from this shoot with Lisa from L Marie Photography, but can’t share any more until they’re published.  I’ll be sure to post some more as soon as I can and just wanted to pass along some sneak peeks!

With love (and glitter),

Meg

Green Please

February 5, 2014

Cover Photo Green Please

For as long as I can remember, my mom has preached the importance of plants in a space.  From my childhood bedroom as a little girl to my first dorm room and even now… a plant periodically makes its way from the midwest to my California doorstep to spruce things up a bit.  In her words, the simplest little green breaths life into a space and transforms it from a house to a home and from an office to a lively workspace.  As a lover of bright white, airy, clean spaces I couldn’t help but notice recently that the images I find myself drooling over in Pinterest inspiration heaven all have one main thing in common: plants.  The starkest white spaces are instantly taken from cold to warm, welcoming and energy-filled with the addition of even one tiny herb or succulent.  True to many of her life lessons, on this one, I think she was right 🙂  Take a look at some of my favorites below:

I’ve always been such a neutrals girl… until this year.  I’m currently so in love with Valentine’s Day and all things pink, red and sparkles and my desk at work is like an explosion of all things girly.  Thankfully, I got to take out some of my fem aggression on our VDay shoot for work (introducing our ruby red wine bottle) and couldn’t have had more fun.  We’re awaiting the professional photography, but had to share a few of my favorite iPhone pics in the meantime 🙂

Happy Monday! xoxo

High Low – Spindle Chair

January 21, 2014

High-Low-Spindle-Chair
One of my favorite pass-times in Los Angeles is running or walking along The Strand in Manhattan and Hermosa Beach.  I think the beaches in LA’s South Bay are hands down the most beautiful in the area as the terrain changes from completely flat to hills and bluffs with roughly 100 yards of sand before the water.  The South Bay is probably one of my favorite places in the world and keeps me calling this crazy city home on the days when I’m ready to throw in the towel and move to New York… or San Francisco… or Austin 😉

Aside from walking or running from a fitness and sanity-saving perspective, it’s also where I go to recharge and look for inspiration.  I love looking at the varying architecture of the homes on the beach from total shacks (that are merely investment properties waiting to be cashed in), to ultra modern, to Mediterranean, to grey and white Cape Cod beauties.  There is one home in particular that I pass often with NanaWalls that completely open up to the ocean.  On the days when the residents are home and have the doors open, I always take a quick peek at their absolutely stunning, elegant, beach-inspired decor.  In their family room, situated around their gorgeous coffee table is a white sofa (I die) and four spindle chairs.  Spindle chairs are so versatile, but look exceptional when they take residence in a light and airy coastal home.  After one of my morning walks, I decided to look them up… just a little research for our hopefully future home 😉  From Williams Sonoma at a striking $1,295 to ZGallerie at a significantly lower $599 (+ $299 ottoman if you’re interested), the range was substantial and a reminder to always look for a better deal.

Happy deal hunting!!! <3

Style At Home

January 20, 2014

Paul Katie Hackworth Rue

People ask me all of the time to define my style and I have a really hard time putting it into words.  Some days I’m really into mid century modern while on others, I’m craving a transitional home fit for a vineyard in Napa.  Beach chic?  Vintage chic?  Eclectic?  Those all seem so broad and non-descriptive.  When I came across this image in the November edition of Rue, I could not stop staring at it.  It’s the dining room of Paul and Katie Hackworth and is everything I love about design all in one space: bright, airy, crisp, neutral, white exposed beam ceilings, a farmhouse table with amazing patina, wingback upholstered end chairs with nailhead detail juxtaposed against the chic and timeless Philippe Stark Louis Ghost Chair… and of course a little splash of life in fresh greenery clippings throughout.  Their “modern farmhouse” is completely and utterly perfect.  The home’s comfort-meets-clean-lines aesthetic left me speechless and I find myself repeatedly pulling up the images whenever I’m suffering a design block and need to push the restart button.  It truly is simplicity at its finest with a real soul and a perfectly imperfect lived-in feel.  I can’t wait to have a house of my own one of these days and theirs leaves me truly optimistic and excited for the future.

Check out their Rue feature here and prepare to fall in love.
