Happy Monday!  I hope you had a wonderful first weekend of fall!  This was actually our first cooler weekend in LA and I was thrilled to not be scorching for once!  I worked on a few projects around our place, installed a new screen door (!!!) and had a pretty mellow two days to play catchup after coming back from Michigan last week.  This week, I can’t wait to share a few projects that I’ve been working on!  Get ready for some exciting stuff and hopefully a few entertaining tricks/decor to inspire your next fall party.

PS: How cozy does that living space look?  I love that it’s still minimalist with lots of warm textures – perfect for fall 🙂

    Apple Cider Mimosa

    September 26, 2014

    Apple-Cider-Mimosa-6

Happy, happy Friday!  I hope you had a wonderful first week of fall – yay!  After a long weekend in Michigan and then a short week of playing catchup from being gone for a few days, I’m more than ready for a weekend at home to do a few projects and test out some new recipes 🙂

One of the major things I was hoping to do while visiting the family was to take a trip to the cider mill because those just don’t exist in California.  Unfortunately, while enroute to the mill, it started POURING and we had to turn around and call it a day.  We picked up some fresh apple cider from the market the following morning and whipped these up to sort of ease the blow of not being able to partake in one of my favorite midwestern traditions.  Just in time for the weekend, I wanted to pass along a super fun fall spin on the classic mimosa 🙂  They are SO good!  I promise you will love them!

    Apple Cider Mimosa

    Prep Time: 5 minutes
    Total: 10
    Serves: 1

    Ingredients

    1 tsp brown sugar
    1 ounce scotch (optional)
    2 ounces fresh apple cider
    4 ounces ONEHOPE Sparkling Wine
    Apple slices for garnish
Caramel sauce & brown sugar for rimming (optional)

    Directions

    1.  If rimming your flutes, dip the rim of the glass into caramel.  Using a small plate or bowl works best for this.  After coating the rim, dip your glass into brown sugar.
    2.  Combine brown sugar, scotch and apple cider in a flute.
    3.  Top with ONEHOPE Sparkling wine and garnish with fresh apple slices.

    Recipe adapted from here.

    TGIF!

    TGIF-FALL

    {image taken by me last year from my aunt’s home in Michigan}

Greetings from the good ol’ Midwest!  I’m in Michigan for the weekend to spend some time with my family.  After the death of a family friend and learning that my grandparents were going to be making the trip from Florida to the Mitten, I decided to take a few days to venture home.   I know it isn’t technically fall yet, but it’s close and fall is my favorite time of the year here.  I’m looking forward to quality time with my loved ones and hopefully a trip to the cider mill to bring me back to earth after a few really stressful weeks.  Looking forward to catching up with some great content next week!  Happy Friday!

    Stay Cool

    September 17, 2014

grapefruit-popsicle-recipe-17Guys.  The weather in LA has been INsane.  I can’t handle the heat for another day and wish to god it would just finally cool off.  Beth and I went to the Rose Bowl Flea Market over the weekend and it was 102 – ONE-0-TWO!!!  It was the first time I had been to the Rose Bowl Flea and I had no idea what to expect.  Little did I know that almost the entire market takes place on blacktop and that I was going to be sweating from the moment I stepped out of the car.  While it was such a fun adventure and I scored some amazing finds, there were a few moments when I actually and seriously thought I was going to have a heat stroke.  Something like this probably would have done the trick and made the day a little better.  How gorgeous are they?!  I just might have to invest in a popsicle mold if this heat keeps up.  Hop on over to Paper & Stitch for more images and for the recipe 🙂

    Hope you’re staying cool!

    Lust List

    suede booties  |  lamp  |  sunnies  |  earrings  |  ring  |  watch  |  pillow

Anyone else feeling totally in limbo this week?  A huge part of me is craving fall while the climate in LA says “hail no!” and won’t give us a break.  Here are a few of my favorite things currently that are perfect for late summer/early fall.

Last year I had a cheapo pair of booties that fell apart to pieces halfway through the season.  I’ve had my eyes on these since last year and I’m saving my pennies to finally purchase a pair I know I’ll love.  And this lamp?!  Every once in a while, Ikea just nails it.  This year they blew me out of the water with this insane collection of lighting.  Sure the “brass” isn’t real, but I’m loving the attention to detail in the white + “brass” + black and white zig zag cloth cord.  Fab.  When I finally had to retire my last pair of Ray Bans, I went back and forth on whether or not to splurge and have a little fun with the mirrored lenses.  I ultimately went classic and a piece of me wishes I would have gone bold.  Loving these.  And while we’re accessorizing, who doesn’t need another pair of casual earrings and an every day ring?  Madewell always has the absolute best, budget friendly jewelry that always holds up.  I’ve been eyeing this watch for freaking days since I discovered Daniel Wellington on Instagram and I’m hooked.  I’ve been checking back weekly to see if they start offering it in plain yellow gold, but it’s an awesome option for all rose gold lovers.  Lastly, I have no words for my love of this pillow and pretty much anything else from Shoppe.  I’ll take one or two of these please!  A girl can dream, right?

PS: Happy Wine Wednesday!  What’s in your glass tonight?  xo

Hello! / DIYs to try this weekend…

    September 5, 2014

    DIYS

Why hello there!  It’s been a while, I know, but things have been straight up cray!  With non-stop work obligations, an office re-configuration, a trip up to Napa (just in time for the earthquake!) and a long wedding weekend over Labor Day, it’s been a little hectic over here.  But alas… my post Labor Day fall nostalgia has set in, I can’t stop thinking about pumpkin spice everything and my fall nesting has reached full force.  I have a list of DIY projects coming out of my ears and plan on finishing at least one or two this weekend.  Here are a few that I’m completely obsessing over.

Geometric garland  |  How amazing would this be as a gigantic mobile?!
Gold geometric mobile  |  Beth and I went to the A Sunny Afternoon launch at URBANIC and these were everywhere – need!
Marquee lights  |  Found these on Etsy, but I’m on a budget, y’all!  Thinking about attempting a “CHEERS” sign for the office soon.
Neon & Gold pots  |  The cutest little pop of color.
Industrial shelf  |  In the process of completing ours for the office and used my friend Casey’s DIY post to create our own 🙂

CHEERS!  Happy Friday and yay for short weeks!

    Good things come…

    August 14, 2014

Screen Shot 2014-08-14 at 4.57.35 AM

…hopefully!  Right?!  After a ton of CAD, a glass of wine and taking a leap of faith by moving some desks around at the office last night, I’ve come to realize that my original configuration for the third floor of our space just isn’t going to cut it.  WORST.  And after waking up at 2:30 this morning with a light bulb moment, trying it in CAD and seeing the new idea successfully come together (YES!), I’m too excited to go back to sleep.  So, indeed – if good things could please come to those who are up late, that would be fantastic 😉

Hope you have a great day and more updates to come!  xo

    Apartment 34 – Office Inspiration

    August 13, 2014

    apartment-34-office-1

At work, we’re growing crazy fast right now, which is awesome, but it also means that we’re experiencing some growing pains – space being one of them.  Our LA office is BEAUTIFUL architecturally with three floors, tons of natural light and an amazing screened in patio/conference room/studio, (all white!) kitchen and glass executive office.  What I’m not thrilled with though, is our serious lack of storage.  We have 1 (ONE!) 6×7′ “closet” space downstairs that also houses all of our utilities including our electrical box and we therefore can’t store ANYTHING within 36″ of it or it’s deemed a fire hazard.  We’re also not allowed to build out a storage unit under our stairs unless we install a sprinkler system because storing anything “combustable” (did you know that IKEA furniture is a “combustable”?!) under stairs is prohibited.  EFF!

That being said, we’re now cramming way too much stuff and way too many people on the third floor of our office which is where everyone seems to prefer sitting.  It’s also where our marketing team needs to be and almost our entire LA office is comprised of marketing people so we have to figure out a way to make it work.  Over the course of the next week, we’ll be re-arranging our current furniture and getting some new pieces to hopefully configure everyone comfortably and in a space they can love 🙂  Until now, I’ve been totally stumped, but the Apartment 34 office reveal came at just the right time and has me really excited.  I mean, how beautiful is this space?!  Super light and airy, but with just enough color and warmth without feeling busy or overwhelming to work from.  I’m feeling totally inspired to hop on CAD and figure this whole thing out.  Take a look at some of my favorites shots below.

    Beach Weekend

    August 12, 2014

    South-Bay-Beach-Weekend

The weekends are way, way too short.  AmIRight?!  Where did it go?  I actually can’t believe that Monday has already come and passed too.  Jake and I just had our first weekend at home together in over 3 weeks.  No commitments, no events, no obligations.  YES.  We stuck around Hermosa for the entire weekend, caught up, went to the beach and worked on a few projects.  It was just how I like it!  The Discovery Channel was hosting their first annual Fin Fest to launch Shark Week and had an impromptu, free Jimmy Buffett concert on the sand so we wandered down to the beach and that’s about it!  I also just recently got a new camera lens so I was having some fun with that.  Check out a few of my favorite moments from the weekend:

    Missing Michigan

    August 7, 2014

    chaise-cabin-smittenstudio

For whatever reason, around this time of the year, I get really nostalgic for Michigan.  I will stand firmly next to the claim that there is no place more beautiful in the summertime and will forever miss the Mitten during the warmest months of the year.  Last week in LA we had rain (rain!) in the summer which is so rare.  I honestly can not remember the last time we had rain in July or August and it’s been at least 5 months since I’ve seen a drop fall in our little beach town.  Hearing thunder made me ache to the core for home in all of its summer lush with endless rolling hills of emerald green.  If you follow Sarah Sherman Samuel of Smitten Studio, you already know of her cabin project on the shores of Lake Michigan.  If you don’t, prepare to fall in love.  Anytime she posts about Michigan, I get so homesick yet excited about the thought of Jake and I maybe having our own cabin one day in my home state.  Regardless of whether that ever happens, I’ll still look to her little cabin renovation for inspiration for my own home in the future.

PS:  These are just a few favorites from Smitten Studio.  Sarah’s entire renovation process is INSANE and you have to check it out here.  Her line of products is pretty amazing too and can be found here.
