First Weekend of Fall

September 29, 2014

Happy Monday!  I hope you had a wonderful first weekend of fall!  This was actually our first cooler weekend in LA and I was thrilled to not be scorching for once!  I worked on a few projects around our place, installed a new screen door (!!!) and had a pretty mellow two days to play catchup after coming back from Michigan last week.  This week, I can’t wait to share a few projects that I’ve been working on!  Get ready for some exciting stuff and hopefully a few entertaining tricks/decor to inspire your next fall party.

PS: How cozy does that living space look?  I love that it’s still minimalist with lots of warm textures – perfect for fall 🙂

Lust List

Lust-List

pendant  |  pillow  |  camera bag  |  meow

Just a few pretty things that I can’t stop completely obsessing over… hey, a girl can dream – right?  If the pendant were a plug-in, I would have ordered it in a minute for our place.  The milk glass, the touch of brass – love.  I’ve been looking for a little something to hang over our kitchen peninsula and this would be perfect if I didn’t need to hire an electrician to re-wire our rental.  And the highly coveted banana leaf print made famous by the Beverly Hills Hotel has been an absolute favorite for as long as I can remember.  My love was only reaffirmed when I visited the Lombardi House this past weekend and it was absolutely everywhere in the best way possible.  Curtains, chairs, pillows – Heaven!  I would have snapped a few pictures with camera if I had taken it with me, but my camera bag is an absolute embarrassment (which is why I need this ONA bag!) so I left it at home.  Cognac + gold = sold.  Lastly, Catbird is just the best and my inner cat lady almost died when J.Crew announced a collaboration and released their cat ring.  Of course the only size left in stock is my size… I think it’s a sign 🙂

Hope you’re having a great week!

Green Please

For as long as I can remember, my mom has preached the importance of plants in a space.  From my childhood bedroom as a little girl to my first dorm room and even now… a plant periodically makes its way from the midwest to my California doorstep to spruce things up a bit.  In her words, the simplest little green breaths life into a space and transforms it from a house to a home and from an office to a lively workspace.  As a lover of bright white, airy, clean spaces I couldn’t help but notice recently that the images I find myself drooling over in Pinterest inspiration heaven all have one main thing in common: plants.  The starkest white spaces are instantly taken from cold to warm, welcoming and energy-filled with the addition of even one tiny herb or succulent.  True to many of her life lessons, on this one, I think she was right 🙂  Take a look at some of my favorites below:

High Low: Gilt Mirror

October 17, 2013

Gilt-Mirrors

While scanning the pages of Domino, I was FLOORED when I landed on the above vignette.  From the herringbone wood flooring, to the original fireplace and gorgeous ceiling detail – I could not take my eyes off of it.  The focal point of the room however, is the beautiful gilt mirror with its elegantly rounded corners and perfect patina.  It adds such an incredible richness to the space that plays off of the luxurious, gold tones in the floor and the brass lighting above the book shelves.

My boyfriend and I just moved into a new little apartment (more on that later) and I’m learning first hand what a tremendous impact adding mirrors can make.  It’s amazing how such a simple addition can draw your eye up, brighten up a space and make it appear so much larger than it actually is.  You almost don’t notice that the above room is pretty tiny, with room for just two chairs and a small table.  I also couldn’t help but note that I’ve been seeing this classic French mirror EVERYWHERE these days and being that the above version was $1,300 – now reduced to $1,088 (still yikes!), I sought out to find another alternative.  Enter the French Gilt Mirror from Wisteria at a whopping $700+ less.  Success!  Adding that to my wish list 😉

Garden House

August 24, 2011

Weeks like these deserve a vacation or at least a little tiny retreat to come home to at the end of the day.  There’s no doubt I’ve inherited my mom (and grandma’s) green thumb and I’m fascinated with not only growing my own food, but with filling up every available inch of our balcony space with beautiful blooms.  The careful nurturing that is required for gardening is really soothing to me and is one of the few moments in my busy schedule when I feel truly at peace.  Garden houses like the ones pictured below make me so happy and excited for the day when I can hopefully have a similar little space to call my own.

{So beautiful!  I love all of the glass, mullions, and ornate woodwork. via}

{Inside view of the above… Truly a retreat.  I love the chandeliers and beautiful chairs.  via}

{Same house as above… another view.  I love the ladder, stacked vintage suitcases, huge blue hydrangeas, chandelier and family photos.  An absolute dream.  via}

{I just want to peek inside! via}

{Stunning.  Bright, airy and plenty of hanging space.  via}
